Sun, July 24, 2005 - 4:23 PMThe area to the east in the mountains is GORGEOUS! I've seen elk on the side of the road every time I've been up there at night.
The area to the north towards Sedona is like rolling, arid hills with scattered ranches and horse farms. CR 50/FR 119 is a great back way to Sedona.
The town itself is kinda crappy. The casino is really the highlight of it. -

Mon, July 25, 2005 - 6:45 AM... and of course it's near the Verde hot springs. Probably one of the coolest drives/hike around there. You drive down a dirt road for about 15 miles to the Verde river, then ford the river to the ruins of a 1930s resort. The "hot tub" is still there.
That's what I remember most about the area! -

Thu, February 2, 2006 - 6:11 AMrealistically, you're looking at an hour and a half or so.... the last 25 miles are dirt.
