I have friends coming in from out of town. I am showing them around Arizona and one of the places we are going to is in Sedona. I have been before, but I do not have a lot of money so I can't afford the Jeep tours or stuff like that this time. I was planning on hiking and going to see Montezuma's Castle and Slide Rock, but I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions of things to do for cheap when we get there. ANY help would be wonderful.

Re: Sedona...on a budget
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 11:28 AMhiking is the best way to see sedona, you dont need a jeep tour for sure. you can hit up red rock state park and v-bar-v ranch (a hidden gem for sure) make sure you get to montezuma well, a nice connection to the castle!
chapel of the holy cross is amazing too. for hiking, try back o beyond and boynton canyon and airport mesa.
have fun!

Re: Sedona...on a budget
Mon, October 3, 2005 - 5:12 PMThere are lots of great little forest roads around the Sedona area. I haven't been on one of these jeep tours, so I'm not sure what roads they take, but there should be quite a few that you can do with just an SUV or pick-up, maybe even some that a car can take on. It's totally free too, and they usually provide the most pristine and least-crowded views of an area. Just buy a good map (Benchmark) and you'll be able to find them. -

Sun, October 9, 2005 - 6:49 PMthanks! I had been to Sedona before, but I wasn't sure how to entertain my friends. We mostly hiked and went to Slide Rock. It was a lot of fun because I hadn't been on most the trails we went to. -

Mon, October 24, 2005 - 11:34 AMI would also say go to Chapel of the Holy Cross. The views from inside the chapel are stunning. It's architectural beams against the sky and views are beyond fantastic. The weekends get busy. Weekdays are definitely a lot less crowded. In any case, definitely go.
