So ive lived here for 2 years but im not too familiar with anywhere outside of the phoenix and up towards the prescott/sedona/flagstaff area. I just wanted to know what some other local residents would recommend as far as the the densest lushest most beautiful forest/mountain region for like a 6-8 hour hike, and im down with very difficult hikes so ya difficulty is no problem as long as its fuckin beautiful.

Re: Most diffucult/rewarding spectacular hikes in az?
Mon, May 30, 2005 - 10:10 AMBlue Range Primitive area in far eastern AZ.
Pick a trail. Any trail.
Geocaching is a wonderful way to see many many cool places....makes it easier to choose destinations. Just pick a general area, then 3 or 4 geocaches in that area.

Sun, July 3, 2005 - 12:34 PMI really enjoyed hiking Miller Peak near Sierra Vista. You can get to the top and back down in one day.

Sun, July 10, 2005 - 3:24 PMSuperstition Ridgeline Trail is simply spectacular. Not lush forest, but sooooooo worth it (in the cooler seasons). San Francisco Peaks Inner Basin Trail for a high mountain getaway. I hear Clear Creek is beautiful, but have never done it. -

Tue, September 13, 2005 - 2:46 PMprobably the long hikes out of Sabino Canyon would get my vote bear canyon to sabino, or up to the arch. . .since the fire a lot of the trails are much more pleasent not so much bushwhacking . . . some trails take all day and are just up and down but you can get from saugauro to pinon and down again in a day. . .

Re: Most diffucult/rewarding spectacular hikes in az?
Wed, February 8, 2006 - 8:42 AMBrown's Peak in the Four Peaks is an awesome non-technical climb, with absoutely amazing views, including the Superstitions from the south- which is a rare view. The hike from the TH to Brown's saddle, but from there to the summit is very difficult, with at least 3 15-20 ft. vertical walls to scale with some exposure. I would not tackle it if you are afraid of heights, but..then again..that might be the best reason to climb..
